OMSG Equipment
OMSG employes a wide assortment of equipment, both of historical and contemporary design, in its training and activities.
As the groups main focus in on learning Longsword tecniques, obviously the sword itself is a members most crutal peice of equipment.  Training incorporates both use of Wasters (wooden swords) as well as blunted steel practice swords.  Our swords both steel and wooden are designed around a common form of a 14th or 15th century Londsword.  The recommended lenght of a longsword is about 48in overall, however this is determined by the individuals size and personal preferance.
The LongSword
Armour
The study and development of armoured fighting tecniques is a key aspect of OMSG's training program.  With this said Armour is also an important assortment of equipment used by our members.
Our main consintration is on armour that would have been in use during the 14th century.  Armour from this era is known as "Transitional Armour", a term which refers to the shift from leather and chain maille to the use of steel plate as armour.  Full plate harnesses were in use by the 15 century and this style of armour is also suitable for OSMG activities.  However, Transitional Armour, is more commonly used by our members, as it provides the most mobility, while maintaining adiquet protection for saftey purposes.
Other Weapons
Another key piece of equipment is the Rondel Dagger.  This weapon was used during the medieval era, and is designed to punch through chain maille armour.  OMSG members work with this weapon to learn its proper deployment and defence.

Currently  OMSG weapons training is consontrated on LongSword and Dagger, however many members have plans to branch out into the use of other medieval weapons.  Notably: Sword&Buckler, Poleaxe, War-hammer, Quarter Staff and Spear.
Contemporary Equipment
Although the majority of the equipment used by OMSG is of similar design and construction, too actual medieval weapons and armour, we do use modern equipment for the purpose of training.  Modern equipment used includes, fencing masks for sparring and contact training.  Elbow and Knee pads and lacross gloves are also used for this purpose.
